Cultural hegemony
According to Vladimir Lenin, imperialism is a natural feature of developed capitalist nation state as it matures into monopoly capitalism. He also pointed out in his work Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism, that twentieth century’s capitalism had entered the highest and final stage, with the development of monopoly which marks the triumph of capitalism and its market economy . It is very controversial whether this is the highest stage of capitalism, however, as conflict-ridden as globalisation is, rich capitalist countries has greatly improved their dominant role in most areas through the worldwide movement and flow of people, goods, information, and cultures across national borders . Take a closer look at America, which is the current only state with “pre-eminence” in every realm of power: economic, political, technological, and ideological. After war on terror, America declared its intention of becoming he most powerful state in history to maintain its hegemony .Although developing countries such as BRIC ( Brazil, Russia, India, China ) are emerging very fast and demonstrate huge potential to grow , America remains the only superpower compared to other countries in this world. Despite the impact of economic crisis in 2008, America’s economic strength has played a long-time leading role in world affairs, and America’s military outlays are around 35% of the global total. Its main allies account for another 25% or so , and recent years continue to witness the growing intention of America’s seeking world power and hegemony status . Besides from economy or military, cultural hegemony has been one of the most prominent in today’s world, as capitalist worldview is imposed and accepted as the global cultural norm by western bloc .One of the most important Marxist thinkers of the twentieth century , Antonio Gramsci, who greatly expand the concept of “hegemony”, suggested that , a ruling class must exert intellectual and moral leadership to achieve hegemony through its own social values, ideas, institutions and so on. The ideologies portrayed in the wide-spread American TV series, movies, clothes, famous brands, books and so on, is gaining its popularity and has influenced countless people across different nations with different backgrounds. Whether it's the convenient and quick life style behind hundreds and thousands of MacDonald’s stores, the innovation and high technology demonstrated in the brand of Apple and Microsoft, or political pursuit expressed in the movies, American culture has been so overwhelming in a global scale . And America continues seeking to extend its culture influence and ideologies across the world, as it is pursuing global dominance in almost every realm.
Does sexy advertisements really sell? Not really.
It has been claimed by many people that, the golden rule in advertising industry is: sex sells. And nowadays , more and more advertising has been created with sexually provocative information to promote sells. This abundance and ubiquity of sexual imagery in advertising can be proved almost everywhere. Recently, I read a research from CNN , adopting an indepth questionnaire and online discussion involving people aged between 18-25, shows that advertisements containing sexual information do attract viewers’ eyes, especially when the products are sex-related, like underwear or condom. However, it does not always work for everything and is not useful for those products that are not associated with sex. Furthermore, it’s unlikely to promote the sell if the sexual elements contained are not related with the product’s features or benefits. When it comes to movie, as Simonton, who is a professor of psychology at the University of California, said, "Sex did not sell, whether in the domestic or international box office, and even after controlling for MPAA rating," . "In other words, even among R movies, less graphic sex is better." Therefore, it is highly necessary that companies which have been or try to continue using sex as a selling tool reconsider their advertising strategies, which also give rise to many controversial issues regarding it’s impact toward s society.
the translation of Chinese food
Chinese people are often proud of our food culture. There is an old Chinese saying "waste not, want not", which exactly expresses Chinese usage of food raw materials. The development and diversity of the delights of Chinese cuisine are also representative of China's long history. It is no exaggeration to say that Chinese cuisine is dainty, in its items, esthetics, atmosphere, and effects. This unique culture also results in the difficulty of translating Chinese food into English. Here some interesting mistakes of how some Chinese food are translated into English: 四喜丸子:four glad meat balls 麻婆豆腐:Tofu made by woman with freckles 童子鸡:chicken without sexual life 夫妻肺片:husband and wife’s slung slice 红烧狮子头:red burned lion head And here are some correct translations of Chines food: 夫妻肺片:Beefand OxTripein ChiliSauce (泡在辣椒酱里的牛肉和牛内脏) 红烧狮子头:Braised Pork Ballsin Soy Sauce (用棕色调料炖烂的肉丸) 麻婆豆腐:MapoTofu Don’t make stupid mistakes while translating Chinese food. It’s always important to think before leap.
how a university looks like after it was hit by Rammasun
Typhoon Rammasun brought gales, downpours and floods to four southern provincial-level regions, affecting over 11 million people in Guangdong, Hainan, Yunnan and Guangxi. A total of 862,000 people have been resettled and some 261,000 are in urgent need of basic necessities. I am studying in Hainan, the lucky thing is when the Typhoon hit our university, i was not there. Some of my roommates went through the worst night without electricity and water in their whole life time . It felt like the whole building was gonna fall down under the influence of typhoon. This is how a university looks like after it was hit by the strongest typhoon in four decades: Rammasun. And here are two pictures of our original university.Despite the huge contrast, I do believe that we will recover the beauty and energy of this university in the near future.

the Most Shocking Pictures from the World Cup
This Colombia fan turned a few heads when wearing a pope's outfit festooned with what appear at first glance to be swastikas and marijuana leaves. Possibly it's South America's answer to Frankie Boyle, seeing how many people he could offend in one go. Protesters took to the streets of Brazil for months ahead of the World Cup - and the first day of the tournament itself witnessed widespread trouble as anti-government activists took advantage of the eyes of the world being on them. CNN producer Barbara Arvanditis lies bloodied and semi-conscious after being caught in the crossfire between police and protestors on the opening day of the tournament. Arvanditis was in the middle of a melee in which police used tear gas and stun grenades to try and quell unrest. The protestors aren't just blaming the government - they've made sure that football's governing body know their feelings as well. We'll leave you to guess what the back of this bitterly ironic Brazil shirt read before we pixellated it in Photoshop. Portugal's Pepe clearly felt that he had not fouled Germany's Thomas Mueller. So, as cruel Victorian fathers across Britain used to do, he decided to REALLY give Mueller something to cry about by stooping down to headbutt the young star. A pitch invader during Germany's match against Ghana carried a strangely disturbing message, consisting of a Polish mobile phone number and an email address that some media outlets have alleged had far-right connotations. No explanation from the pitch invader has yet been forthcoming, though FIFA is investigating several fans who blacked up their faces during the game.

Beautiful Father's Day Poems
1.A thank you letter to our fathers: Father's Day Over the years As we grow old, We remember our father So brave and bold. In the garden, Leaning on the plow, He would listen to me; I see him now. He would give advice And understand; He was always there To lend a hand. God made fathers Strong and firm, For he knew our lives Would have great concerns. So he gave us fathers To teach us to pray, And guide our lives, And show us the way. So on his day Let's take the time To say "Thanks, dad. I'm glad you're mine." 2.Growing up with our dads: My DAD When I was just a tiny kid, Do you remember when, The time you kissed my bruises, Or cleaned by soiled chin? It seems like only yesterday, You wiped away my tears, And late at night I called your name, To chase away my fears. Though time has changed your handsome grip, Your hair is snowy white, You gait's a little slower now, Thick glasses help your sight. Oh, do I thirst for years gone by, To be that growing lad, Re-living all of the memories, Of growing with my dad. 3.Best memories of our dads: Memories Of My Dad He wasn't a hero, Known by the world. But a hero he was, To his little girl. My daddy was God, Who knew all things. And better than Santa, With the gifts he'd bring. I knew his voice, Before I could speak. And loved it when, He would sing me to sleep. He changed my diapers, And sat up all night. When my body was weak And I'd put up a fight. He'd come home late, With not much to say. And made us all kneel, As he taught me to pray. He taught me life's lessons, Of right from wrong. And instilled in me values, That I might be strong. And so through the years, Like a hero he stood. Working to give, All that he could. His presence was important, And we loved to see him smile. For no one in the world, Could emulate his style. And so dear Dad, My best memory to recall. Is the gift of your presence, The greatest gift of all. 4.A Letter from a Father who has gone Though I'm Gone To my dear family, I'm sending this from above, That even though I'm gone from earth, I can still feel your love, And all the times we spent together, Growing a love that would last forever, Are times that will never leave, Because you remember me. I'm sorry about the timing, For I didn't want to leave, But God called me home, So I fell into eternal sleep. There was so much left to do here, Cause God took me quite young, I had a loving family, And so much to teach my son. I'm sure you all can make it, You have God by your side, And just to let you know, I'm enjoying this long heavenly harley ride. If any of you ever need me, Just close your eyes and I'll be there, I'll help you through your life, If you remember how much I cared. I want you all to know today, That I love you very much, And even though I'm gone from earth, I can still feel your love. 5. the circle of being a dad: Family Circle When I am born, you are here In your eye, I see a tear Time flies and already I'm two "Look, Daddy, I can tie my shoe!" Before you know it, I'm five Every day, you thank God I'm alive Pretty soon, I turn eight You tell me I'm never allowed to date I'm already twelve in my preteen years Which means you'll help me with all my new fears Now fourteen with my permit to drive Waiting to hit the big one-five Too early comes sixteen, with my license now It went by too fast, you just ask how You want to meet my boyfriend when I'm eighteen I pray to God that you're not too mean The same guy two years later asks for my hand I'm relieved when you say, that's just grand About a year later, you walk me down the aisle Through all the tears, you bare a smile Three years later, you're gonna be a grandfather You show love and pride for your new granddaughter Another year down the road Mom dies, oh the many tears that flowed You're not doing so well without her Less than a year later, you forgot all about her Alzheimer's sets in and it scares me so Not long after, you decide to go Now I'm regretting not saying goodbye Every time I think about it, I start to cry The cycle has begun again It has started over with little Megan The other day, she turned two And said, "Look, daddy, I can tie my shoe!" At last, thank you dad, we love you.
