A poor village near the Mountain Everest
2014-11-22
I am an English teacher in a Middle School in Shigatse, Tibet Autonomous Region, which is the last holy place in the world---pure land and blue sky. It's an attractive destination that each traveller want to go to, including me.
I chose to work in Tibet twelve years ago, far away from my hometown in Sichuan. One of the reasons was to see the Mount Qomolangma face to face. Unfortunately, I hadn't got any chance to approach it. It's a pity for me. Things seems to appear a favourable turn when you are desperate. In March, I was appointed as a village leader to stay at a village for three months , 300 miles away from Shigatse city, my work place to guide the villager breaking away from poverty. Luckily, the village is near the Mount Qomolangma.
On 18th, March, I got to the spot asked to after an 8-hour drive. Exhausted. It's hard to breathe. The altitude of this village is about 5000 metres. My lip became black because of lack of oxygen. To my surprise, There is no one tree in the village, let alone the running water or electricity. Everyone seemed happy when I arrived. A middle-aged man, wearing a pair of thick glasses, an intellectual obviously, They glared at me carefully thinking. I was curious about them as well. They were wearing dirty clothes, which seemed never to be washed. Their faces are dirtier than a dog's body.
