The Dragon Boat Festival which happens on Lunar May 5th is in memory of QuYuan, an ancient poet. Since the Lunar in China change every year, so this year, the Dragon Boat Festival is June 2nd.
Actually the favourite part for me is the traditional food of Dragon Boat Festival. As the following picture, the traditional food is named of ZongZi (粽子) which is a pyramid-shaped dumpling made of glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves. Some of people do not like it because it is greasy. In general, the zongzi is made of glutinous rice, fat, the yolk of salty eggs and so on. So if you ate it up, you will feel very full for a whole day.
But my boyfriend's mother is a skilled and kid person. She likes to make the zongzi with her own hand. Loads of people did not know how to make it especially the youth, so it seems very rara skill. I receive her zongzi every year. And it tastes so good!
Self made Zongzi is always tasty and delicious than shopped from the supermarket, to my understanding, and the process of Zongzi making provides a good opportunity for family re-taste the happiness of reunion.
