Lost in Beijing
2014-04-26

You may find it unbelievable that as a 30 years old Chinese, it's the first time in my life to visit Beijing, although from Ordos to Beijing it takes only one hour flight.

So far, I find Beijing can be a good place for visit but not a suitable place for me to live. I can't tolerate the congestion of lots lots of people everywhere, even in toilet. Too much time is spent on the way or waiting in line. There is a big impact to my grassland life style

It's funny that I met two foreign families on the subway, who are from Paris. I guided them and went to Tian'an men Square together. I said comon ca va to them and the 3 years old girl replied ca va bla bla. She is so cute.

To avoid being lost, I booked a hotel close to Wangfujing. But it's too noisy outside all the night. Maybe in the following two days I will get used to it and can find more amazing things in Beijing.

Do you have any good advice?

Thank you for your comment. Last night, CCTV reported Nanluoguxiang, where I had lunch in Bejing. It's a nice travel anyway.

Yes one reason to plan ahead is surely to have a chance to do that! It is a big possible benefit of friends in CD Forum. By the time you post on a Beijing visit, I was on way to Shanghai, followed by London a week. So no help from me! But perhaps next time

Thank you. I just decieded to go to Beijing occasionally. I went to Wangfujing and saw Foreign language store. My hotel is close to Dengshikou. It's easier for me to go around. For the last night, I stayed in my uncle's home, in Tongzhou District. Next time, I will try to organize in advance. If it's possible, I'd like to meet friends from CD. Also, welcome to Ordos, Inner Mongolia.

Thank you for your recommending. I visited some. But wherever I went I felt being pushed by people....

Of course, when in a Beijing, visit the Great Wall. Tours everywhere but cheapest is by public transport .. Can take a couple of hours. Get 877 direct bus at Deshengmen Arrow Tower. The nearest subway station to Deshengmen is Jishuitan Station (subway line 2, Exit A), and walk about 450 meters from that exit on side of road where you are. Not direction of the big junction just there. If you cross big road, you went wrong way. Bus goes to Badaling Great Wall. Only small money and cheaper with Beijing Transit Card. The Great Wall entrance around 45 rmb once there. Take photos!

You should have posted about your Beijing trip a few days before and I am sure many in the forum would respond. Wangfujing is very central but touristy. If you like browsing a bookstore, try the Beijing Foreign Languages Bookstore in the Wangfujing Pedestrian Street. Take metro line 4 to the Summer Palace. If you like Art go to 798 Art District. Easier by taxi just say 798 in Chinese. No metro there but to save taxi fare to short ride cost, take metro to Sanyuanqiao station line 10 and get taxi there. So many things! Have a nice time.

The National Museum at Tian An Men Square and the Capital Museum on West Changan Boulevard, accessible on no. 1 subway line Muxidi stop, are worth a visit if you like museums. And they are free of charge.
