In china villages, there are more and more poor family, they don't have enough money to let their son get married. Because before getting married, the bridegroom's family have to give some money to the bride's family, the number is about sixty thousand RMB, this money don't includ the cost of new house and the furniture. And the bridegroom's family have to invite the relatives to have a lunch in restaurant, the total amount of money is about two hundred thousand RMB. In villages the older parents only can earn ten thousand RMB from the land per year, because they rarely have skills and good education, sometimes planting farm is the only chance. The result is that a marriage need the amount of money of twenty years income.
So a typical phenomenon happened. If two families all haven't enough money and have a son and a daughter, so they always choose a changed way, it means changing their daughter. The girl just like a goods, they haven't anyright to choose their love and life. If a man can't find a partner, always the man is a disabled or illiterate. When a girl married to that man as a changed goods, their whole life will be ruined.
yes I admit what you said, there are progress, but it's so slow, every year I can hear these kind of things!
Nowsday these occassion and situation already gradually altered. they can enter into civilized living form.
This reminds me of a similar arrangement in India - they call it to "Give and Accept a Girl", if suitable mates can be found for them in a family they like.
Two families exchange each other’s girl as own daughter-in-law in the future is a kind of special outdated marital relationship in some our backward and underdeveloped countryside.
With the further development of national new countryside construction and the acceleration of urbanization process, people’s economic situation better up, then this kind of relationship will be greatly eliminated.
