Different jokes in different countries
2013-07-12
When we take a speech in western countries, the joke is necessary. It can attract the audience's attention, let them feel funny and enjoy the speech, I think when the audience have belly laugh, it means the joke you said is work. what can we do if the joke isn't good, do I have any better way to save the speech and let the speech looks good?
In china we say some joke in some speeches, but don't like western countries. People always say that the western citizen are more humorous than chinese. Do you agree with that? Some people said that chinese have humor too, but the chinese humor are different with western's, what do you think that?

When I worked at IBM we use to get stand up comedians come in for the opening or closing of some of the employee update, education or sales conventions. It served a dual purpose one was as you said to get the audience to laugh to help them forget whatever was on their mind and the other was to reward them for all their efforts and contributions.

One of the stand-up comedians once stated that he keeps his material fresh by picking up a local paper to read on the way in to the city from the airport. People like the jokes to be current and relevant so changing a few things can freshen up an old joke. He also use to gauge his jokes by the audience some jokes that will get a laugh in a night club could get a round of boos in a Business setting. A lot of them will make jokes about frustration with traffic, weather, and relatives. Jokes about in-laws usually get a good laugh.

I flew in to Toronto today, Jan 20, right? Going through immigration and customs I was hot and just thought it was the frustration of the lineups and heavy clothes. Then I got outside and saw the sun and grass even. Well I turned around and headed back into the airport saying this must be the wrong city, where is all the snow. Heck I just came here from sunny Florida and it was snowing there.

He got a laugh because the headline on the daily paper said "Toronto enjoys 20C heat while Florida suffers freak winter blizzard.
