New leadership, new style.


Now more and more Chinese officials can be seen in the public, endearing themselves to the people instead of just sitting behind the desk to give instructions. Some praise them for going deep among the masses and into the thick of life. Yet some argue they are just putting on a show. Maybe someday you will also accidentally run into some leaders on the streets. What do you think of this new style of leaders?

A netizen of Fuyang, Anhui Province left a post online saying he "ran into" Yu Yong, the Party chief of their city on Jan. 22, 2014. The post sparked hot debate immediately, with many speculating this could be a "political show." The netizen confirmed later that he really "ran into" the official by accident. There have been many reports about netizens and reporters coming across officials on public transport facilities or in small restaurants in the Chinese media recently.

Photographs of Wang Guifen and sanitation workers sweeping the streets on March 22 also sparked controversy online. Sharp-eyed netizens found that in the picture, two sanitation workers were wearing large masks, and Ms. Wang did not wear. Maybe she just wanted to be seen.
