When Chernobyl melted down in Ukraine, life forms all around it were affected adversely, billed as one of the worst nuclear disasters in history.
When Ukraine itself now melts down, all countries attached to the Eurasian land mass, and beyond, will be affected by it. The Ukraine Crisis is headed to becoming one of the worst geopolitical disasters in human history.
The danger of Kiev's dramatic political meltdown is that it starts off a chain reaction, just like a nuclear reactor would when its heat production exceeds its cooling capacity.
For example, if the original plan were to tie Russia down to a burning issue at its doorstep, such as Ukraine or Georgia, then the real point of least resistance becomes China, as it could no longer count on Russia protecting it should it go to war with Japan. At the height of Russian conflict with Ukraine rebel leaders, Japan would be very tempted to provoke China to a war.
Conversely, if Ukraine is the real prize, Japan might start something in Asia to tie down China, which then could not help Russia as it gets ground down in Ukraine. When strategic deficiencies demand to be corrected, the temptation to use strategic weapons rises fairly rapidly. This chain reaction is built into the history fo Ukraine. Indeed, as home to Chernobyl, the people there could easily understand why they, of all peoples, are going to be the first to see this geopolitical meltdown take everything and everyone with it.
