Notice how Russian ultra-nationalists often laud Stalin a Georgian. And some praise Ivan the Terrible. But the majority eventually come the to a fairly moderate compromise. Our first Canadian PM (Macdonald) was quite a drunk and his royalist motivation was to avoid absorption by the US. Still he is remembered fairly kindly. He used corruption for his political aims (but not to enrich himself). Canadians are a forgiving group.
What's on your mind...

RE: Is It OK To Not Like Mao In Modern Day China?

Mao denigration driven by political motives
Global Times | 2013-12-22 23:58:04
By Global Times

Excerpt:
There is no historical or current evidence that is convincing enough to denigrate Mao. Voices that completely deny or support him are both highly polarized. Currently, the demonizing voices are mainly from the West, which also criticizes China's socialist system.

Those who criticize Mao do so out of political motivations rather than a desire for genuine historical debate. Those who try to undermine China's politics in the name of debating history should be resisted by China's mainstream society.

What??? Can you explain that to me in English please? That is so screwed up and twisted it is genuinely scary if that is the mindset of mainstream China.

Seriously, can you explain more clearly what you are trying to say?

RE: Is It OK To Not Like Mao In Modern Day China?

No one had put it more accurately, regarding Chairman Mao. than the late, Deng Xiaoping .
没有人能形容更加准确关于毛主席,超过邓小平.
We must admit that Deng Xiaoping's remark about Mao's life that he was "70 percent right and 30 percent wrong" represents the mainstream ideas about Mao.

Since Chinese ruling cliques never can apologise for their past errors it is unlikely that the See Pee See will ever judge Mao correctly or more realistically. For this to happen, a dynastic change would be imperative.
