The pretty premium: why looks matter in the workplace

A recent study by Essex University’s Institute for Social and Economic Research found good looking people were more successful throughout their whole lives.

Beauty plays a role in what job a person gets - and factors including someone's IQ, education and parents' education were taken into account.

Being pretty has an impact on the type of jobs people do.

Other studies found the effect over the whole career and we found facial attractiveness is important in determining people's occupational prestige at the beginning of the career as it is in the middle or at the end of the career.

Previous research has shown that attractive people are usually hired sooner, get promotions more quickly and earn up to four per cent more than their colleagues who are less aesthetically pleasing.

Does this mean I will never get a job?
Stan, you're holding a gun to God's head. I can't think of a metaphor that's better than this.

This kind of view that facial attractiveness usually got the upper hand in their job career is understandable. After all, every single one of us tends to like all best things.
