E-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd broke its record for Double 11 online shopping, by beating last year's transaction volume after 13 hours of trading on Monday.

Alibaba saw 19.1 billion yuan ($3.13 billion) transacted over its payment platform Alipay by 13:04 pm, eclipsing last year's overall daily sales generated by the group’s business-to-customer site Tmall and customer-to-customer marketplace Taobao.

The number quickly soared to 20 billion yuan over the next 30 minutes.

Alibaba recorded more than 1 billion yuan in transactions over Alipay in six minutes during Monday, a milestone that took an extra 31 minutes to hit last year.

The company's chairman Jack Ma has suggested that the value of transactions on Tmall and its customer-to-customer Taobao marketplace could top 30 billion yuan, up 60 percent of sales on the same day last year.

This year over 20,000 merchants teamed up with Tmall to slash prices up to 50 percent and enticed tens of millions of bargain hunters.

Oh, maybe that I can change my view! You are a big saver!  You will spend more money if you buy the same goods on the off-line shopping malls.

I do went to the mall after work, finding there were few people in the mall. It is a big contrast from my previous imagined scenario. Now I know the reason,  it is the on-line shopping that has changed people' s consuming habits. What a big threat to the traditional shopping mall.

Photo of Li and Ma’s meeting late last month was released by the Premier’s office. The Premier reiterated that the government plans to issue new policies aimed at spurring youth employment and supporting young entrepreneurs.

Li told Ma, he was touched by the commitment of online sellers who post packages at midnight, in order to receive a five-star rating for service.

Ma said Taobao’s 9-million online shops have created 12 million direct and indirect jobs. His company alone has 25,000 employees. Ma also briefed Premier on Monday’s shopping festival.

Li responded that online businesses have created a huge number of jobs with many going to young people, and he said online business is promising, as long as business people can ensure good quality, integrity and fair competition.
