The World Bank will publish a proposal on China's reform agenda, which may include suggestions to allow farmers to freely sell their land, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing Chinese officials.

World Bank policies had brought untold miseries to nations ranging from Suharto's Indonesia to countries in South America and, together with the IMF, is least qualified to talk national development in Asian, Latin American, and African countries. It was a great promoter of "austerity" policies until very recently, when the people in the West itself began to question "solutions" that put deprived sources of income for poor people while enriching a few rich corporations.

This is a really bad idea.  It will only lead to small farmers losing their land, which is their safety net.  In America, it furthered the gap between the rich and the poor, since speculators were able to come in and take over the land.  China should ignore the WB whose policies have done nothing to benefit ordinary people.
