Giving and taking bribes have been part of HUMAN culture for eon's....thats longer than a few thousand years...
A department head of a City Fire department was caught in a sting operation by undercover police in Pontiac Michigan--Pontiac is the name of an Ottawa American Indian Chief who became famous in the middle 1700's for a seige on a Brittish military outpost.
I think it is very appropriate to mention more than 70% of American cities retain their name of heritage--not 'renamed' during the construction of the geographical United States of America...
— The former fire chief in Pontiac has been sentenced to six months in prison for taking a bribe to ignore violations at a bar.
Authorities say Jeffrey Hawkins solicited a $1,000 bribe and later accepted cash from an undercover investigator. He was convicted in April of one bribery charge while the jury deadlocked on another.
Hawkins retired in 2010 after 22 years with the fire department, including 11 as chief. The Detroit News (http://bit.ly/124PFEv) says he was sentenced Thursday in Oakland County court.
Joy Yearout, spokeswoman for Attorney General Bill Schuette, says the public deserves "100 percent integrity" from public officials.
