Shangri La Hotel in Singapore is anything but a peaceful venue of mutual trust and cooperation.  It is a place where verbal and psychological combat takes place amongst the defense chiefs of all countries in and with a stake in Asia.  As such, whatever is said over there has to be taken with a grain of salt, because a lot of bluffing goes on over there, while real actions may never be revealed at all until they occur.  Winning verbal battles is not always good.  China really has nothing in the whole thing except to get its sovereignty over Diaoyudao recognized.  Everything else is other people's problems being blamed on China.

Herein is the brilliance of the Japanese position.  It did not mention Diaoyudao/Senkaku at all.  Thus, faced with so many criticisms and threats, China could win every joust and come home without any prize.

Better for China to have stated clearly that its sovereignty over Diaoyudao must be respected, because it will be defended as a matter of national honor and sovereignty.  Period.  It might have come home with something close to it.

Please provide a source for the Asian audience laughing at him. Also, he was in Singapore, not China. You may want to study up. These are two different countries.

You also fail to mention that the conference in Singapore was attended by a high-level Chinese military delegation. At least he said this to their face instead of pretending to be friendly.

There is plenty of evidence of Chinese cyber attacks. To call it "baseless" is even more misleading as well.

Just found the video of Mr. Hagel's speech. As I thought, nobody in the audience laughed during or after the speech ended. This thread is fueled by simple anti-American sentiment.

His entire "attack" on China was saying that the threat of cyber intrusion is higher than ever; The USA will be investing heavily into cyber security and that some of the attacks seem to be originating from China and the Chinese government. He then called for the establishment of a cyber working group to help USA/Chinese relations and common interests. I think you are sensationalizing this entire issue because of your own agenda(s).
