1.  99.99% of Chinese just want to protect national image unconsciously when they meet foreigners. China is a peaceful and friendly country. We can not show our hostilety to the foreigners.

2.  Respect. We've been educated to respect others since we were born. Don't you know respect is one of the most important virtures in our society?

3.  80% (the younger ones) want to practise English with them.

4. No doubt there's small percentage who want to have a relationship with them. 0.001% I believe and this only happens in coastal cities.

It is true that the novelty value helps and to be the lone Laowai amongst the locals makes a difference.

I treat all the people I meet with the same courtesy despite their station in life, I find that most Chinese people respond well to the politeness and treat you better than those who are less polite.
