A poverty-stricken county in NW Shaanxi Province has recently made headline, not because of its achievements to boost the local economy , but rather a group of funny-looking buildings that was said to look like 8 giant cigarettes standing in line.

It was reported that the local government of the Zhouzhi county spent millions to build the city’s north gate, which was mocked by the public as cigarettes.

Some people jokingly commented that the Monkey King, an imaginary figure in Chinese classic Journey to the West, might have broken his golden cudgel in half that later transformed into the funny gate.

Some even said sarcastically it must have been the Jade Emperor, imaginary Ruler of the Heaven in Chinese myth, that littered cigarette butts after finishing his smoke.
