That's not a kimono! It's a traditional Han dress that was inspiration for Japanese kimonos.

My granny once told us her stories of extreme pain and discomfort when her mother forced her to start wearing those tiny shoes. She would sit for days at home not wanting to walk a single step. The ladies back then took great pride to show off who has the tiniest feet. Tiny feet add strength to getting a wealthy husband. Luck had her way when she migrated to Nanyang, now South East Asia. She threw off those shoes into the sea once she got onto the boat.
