TRUTH IN ACTION

In many cases, the truth cannot be known until one acts on a course of action.  All the research and speculation cannot substitute for doing and finding out.  This is one function of leadership that modern wisdom seems to make light of.  Some people are just very good at making snap decisions.  Not everyone can do it, but it does not mean that no one can do it either.

In business, one says that reward is proportinal to risk.

Why is it in politics, especially Chinese politics, that risk is averted at a greater cost than the cost of a possibly small misktake?  Something in politics can amplify a negative result far beyond its real importance, forcing leaders to be too careful for the good of their country.

Diaoyu is one such example.  Even if the Chinese fishermen should be in charge of Diaoyu for just  3 days, it would have shattered the Japanese claim that its sovereignty over Dioayu is not in question, or that it has exercised continuous and complete jurisdiciton over Diaoyu island for the past 40 years.

Zhou Enlai had no choice but to shelve the dispute over Diaoyu island because China at that time did not have any navy to speak of.  But 40 years later on, China has no excuse to continue shelving the dispute.  If Japan wants to make a fight out of it, then Japan deserves what it gets as a result.

China should take the same vein as the Potsdam Procalamation of 1945:

1.  China wishes to resolve the Diaoyu dispute peacefully if at all possible.
2.  China is giving Japan a chance to remove its coast guard and policemen from Diaoyu island.
3.  The alternative is for Japanese stragglers on the island to face prompt and utter eviction.
4.  If evicted, Japan will owe China $125 million US dollars for back rent, plust another $100 miliion for reparations of China's cost of evicting the Japanese, depending on the losses suffered by China.
5.  If Japan leaves voluntarily before 10/21/2012, one week from today, the backrent and reparations will not be required.

Japan, US troops mull drill to take island: reports

Japan and the United States are mulling a joint military drill to simulate retaking a remote island from foreign forces, reports said, amid a festering row between Tokyo and Beijing over disputed islets.

The exercise, part of broader joint manoeuvres to start in early November, would use an uninhabited island in Okinawa, southernmost Japan, Jiji Press and Kyodo News agencies quoted unidentified sources as saying on Saturday.

The drill would involve Japanese and US troops making an amphibious and airborne landing to retake the island using boats and helicopters, Kyodo said.

Japan and China have long been at loggerheads over the sovereignty of rocky outcrops in the East China Sea known as the Senkaku Islands in Japan and the Diaoyu Islands in China.

The Tokyo-administered island chain is uninhabited, but is thought to be sitting on top of valuable resources.

The dispute flared in August and September with landings by nationalists from both sides and the subsequent nationalisation of the islands by Tokyo.

The exercise would reportedly use the uninhabited island of Irisunajima. The tiny island, used as a firing range for US forces, is also in the East China Sea but hundreds of kilometres (miles) away from the disputed island chain.

Jiji said some Japanese and US government officials were cautious about holding the drill, fearing a likely angry response from China.

Well, if indeed Diaoyu island belongs to China, China can just do its own practicing on Diaoyu island for a change.  Nothing like the real thing.  That's the way it should be.  The real thing.

as it seems China's PLA is actually weaker than the Beiyang navy.

It looks like when the 解放军 a.k.a. the PLA was known as the 八路军, it was more courageous and patriotic. It was documented that the 八路军 would stage a sea attack on its enemy using only sailing boats!  Today, the PLA Navy has modern battle ships but cannot or unable to defend some small islands belonging to its motherland!  How radicuosly humiliating!

Japan has running territorial disputes with ALL its neighbours.

With Russia over the Kurile Island, ...

Reality: Japan is fighting with noone, actually the Japanese troops haven't fired a single shot against anyone (!) since 65 years ago, aka the end of the world war. There are just some islands disputes that they have with nearby nations, which is perfectly normal.

China on the other hand is occupying Tibet and claiming all nearby seas for itself while making propaganda films like Flowers of war and The Tokyo trial and feeding its citizens with anti-japanese sentiment in order for: (A) To have them direct their rage towards something other than the Chinese Government and (B) To justify itself starting to be an imperial power via warmongering.
