By Diao Shujun ( )Updated: 2012-08-10Ruijin, a county in south Jiangxi, is known as the "Cradle of the People's Republic of China". Red tourism has become the pillar industry of its economy in recent years.
The "Red Well", which was dug by Chairman Mao Zedong and red army soldiers during the revolutionary era, is now a popular tourist spot in Shazhouba village of Ruijin. The former sites of the revolutionary government in Yeping town also attract a large number of tourists every year.
Ruijin is reported to be the most influential city for its revolutionary tradition across China. In the first half of 2012, Ruijin received 1.28 million tourists and earned 370 billion yuan ($58 million) in revenue, a year-on-year growth of 25 percent.
Since China strengthened its efforts to support the revitalization of south Jiangxi, six enterprises have signed investment agreements with Ruijin, yielding a total investment of one billion yuan. Ganzhou city also saw national economic and technological development, achieving a total output value of 6.82 billion yuan in the first half of 2012.
