Generally speaking, Chinese are more friendly than foreigners.

Even normally they do not say hello to strangers.

Normally that is why I would answer since it's just the easy way out. This specific time I felt good, they were actually very friendly so I let my defense down and I told the truth.

Won't do it again :)

And I still don't understand how telling the truth is mean but well that's cultural difference.
