And what I forgot,
considering we're speaking Shangers on this specific case, I can't remember when Boys (from) there ever had any traces of masculinity, so I don't see what's supposed to have changed there.
Or did those in charge of education take until now to finally realise it?
Breaking News: Nothing changed in that regard, it's always been like this.

IMO, should be done like I experienced it after our school started to admit Girls.
Semi co-education.
Seperate classes in PE and role-modell affected subects such as Sciences, and also in classes where boys suffer under role modells, because that stuff should run both ways.

Now, I don't see your point in this case though.
Young chinese boys:
One could hardly manage to do anything to make them even worse at socialising compared to now, now, can one?

Single sex scchools are great. My daughter goes to one and she studies hard, because there are no distractions of meeting a boy during the day.

They teach her discipline and rules. Girls are usually pretty good at this. Boys should also be encouraged to do the same. But boys are only interested in smoking, drinking, internet games and getting some comes a distant 5th, 6th, 7th .................or even further down the line.

When talking Shanghai yes, the students are not exactly known for being Alpha males by any means, at least not while they are in school. Indeed it could be argued that in many Chinese metropolises the high school and junior school boys are more effeminate than many of the girls.

I agree that semi-coeducational systems probably work best for the majority. Being at a single sex school while academically superior is not always the best for the student's socialisation with the opposite sex.

I will give credit where credit is due, the School I attended was in terms of teaching and getting the most out of the individual student was a wonderful place but there was a high price paid both socially in the short term and in some cases emotionally in the long term as quite a few of the staff would prefer to cane rather than enlighten, particularly while in the junior years of school life.
