It all started with this ad for the 'Keep American Beautiful' campaign

The first Earth Day on April 22, 1970, was, by all accounts, the beginning of a powerful grassroots movement, helped immeasurably by a famous TV commercial that premiered on Earth Day 1971 of an Indian shedding a tear as he saw pollution all around him.

I remember these commercials.  That single tear was such a powerful statement.  I don't know anyone who wasn't effected by it in some way.  It certainly made you feel like crap if you ever littered.

There are a few beautiful sights that have been preserved for the time being but most of the natural beauty of the country has been destroyed. The destruction continues and will not end until the people regain control over the land and natural resources.

Much of the natural beauty has been destroyed?

I don't see that.

What are you basing that on?
