WE NEED A BIGGER SOCIETY
Monday February 13,2012
NO DOUBT there were dozens of different reasons why commuters walked past unconscious 14-year- old Oliver Tiplady.
Many will simply have been in a rush to get to work on time, others may have suspected, wrongly, that the lad was under the influence of drink or drugs, yet more will have simply assumed that somebody else had already telephoned for an ambulance.
So lots of reasons but no excuse.
Even in our modern era when communities are fractured and the pace of life is punishing, an obligation still exists for decent people to help someone in distress.
As Oliver’s mother Susan puts it: “This walk-on-by society has got to stop.”
It is up to each of us to make that wish come true.
too similar to the toddler who was run over by ongoing traffic on the road
no one bother to stop and help in anyway, until a kind lady sweeper realised the accident
and found the child as flat as a sheet of paper.
