When a nation uses GDP figures to measure its sense of self-worth it is in trouble. I note that half a trillion or so RMB in the Chinese national reserves was shipped offshore this last 1/4. It seems some very rich individuals are not so confident about the immediate stability of the economy.

As for the GDP figures, measurment and self worth etc. Look at The U.S. before giving advice to others.

What is the official total 2011 GDP in terms of the RMB?


The figures were all published by the NBS yesterday.

According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics , China's GDP rose 9.2 percent year-on-year in 2011 to reach 47.16 trillion yuan (7.26 trillion U.S. dollars), with a projected fiscal deficit of 900 billion yuan.  (USD 5,385   per capita)

According to the exchange rate as of Dec. 30th 2011 (last trading day in the old year) is adds up to USD 7,482 trillion  or roughly 5,550 USD per capita.
