Macau has a rich and varied cultural scene and nightlife reflecting both its Chinese and Portuguese heritage. The city is especially known for its casinos rivalling Las Vegas’s – gambling fans can choose between an ever-expanding portfolio of sumptuous gaming palaces; there were 32 at last count.

Casablanca

You'll find a host of bars and music pubs along the waterside Avenida Dr Sun Yat Sen in NAPE, including Casablanca, a favourite Portuguese bar with a movie theme, great cocktails and smooth jazz music in the background.

Culture in Macau


Dom Pedro V Theatre

Built in 1860 as the first western-style theatre in China, the Dom Pedro V Theatre hosts drama productions and classical and chamber music concerts. The theatre is part of the UNESCO-listed historic centre of Macau. Seasonal orchestral concerts, particularly during Christmas and Easter, are also held at both the Church of St Dominic on Senado Square and the Chapel of St Joseph Seminary (Rua do Seminário).
