You know what surprises me most....how come that under the Dalai Lama regimes  of the past,  serfs and slaves were mutilated and killed at will. Not only a few, but thousands of them , year in, year out.

The Dharamsala boss not only knows this but promoted it as well. Strange for him to play the good boy now.

Until 1969 even the Vatican had the death penalty for one crime. The crime was to kill the pope.

All countries in this world had in their past the death penalty.

More and more consider it barbaric and decided to abolish it once and for all.

But you're certainly aware that most countries in Asia, incl. India and Japan, still have the death penalty. Afaik they have no intention to abolish capital punishment. The same goes for at least 30, if not more, states of the U.S. In Texas it's kind of government sport which everybody enjoys.

The Philippines for example, abolished it.
But you are right.
For the European countries everything has been a long learning process,
stretched over several hundred years, before coming to the conclusion,
that the state should not kill.

I am sure human kind as a whole will sooner or later follow suit.

Early humans were man hunter and man eater, some secluded tribes did until recently.

It was considered "normal", until our brains got a few more windings and our hearts become

a bit more soft - so we considered it barbaric and abolished it.
