About 2 weeks ago, 29 Chinese from different places in China went to visit a blind man in Dongshigu village, Yinan, Linyi, Shandong. They have been concern about him knowing that none had succeeded to reach him. Many tried to visit him but were attacked and robbed by people confining the blind man and his family in the past months. The reported to the police but didn't help to access the blind man's home.

The 29 persons couldn't reach there too. Their cameras and mobile phones were robbed but not attacked as seriously as those before. How caring and brave they are to travel several hours getting there at the risk of being robbed just trying to contact the blind man not knowing he's alive or dead.

Normal? How can these thugs' behaviour be tolerated? Months ago there were individuals and 2 or 3-person groups tried to reach Chen's home and been beaten, kidnapped and robbed by thugs. They reported to the police. No change . Bigger group visit only could avoid kidnap.

The blind man is Chen Guangcheng. He used his self-taught law knowledge to help villagers. One of the case was exposing the harsh illegal measures by local authorities when enforcing the one-child policy. He wasn't against family planning. He's against violence in forced abortion, forced sterilization and unfairness in that matter.

He went to Beijing to seek lawyers help and interviewed by foreign reporter.

He was on charges of destruction of property and assembling a crowd to disrupt traffic in 2006 by Linyi authorities. On the eve of his trial, all three of his lawyers were detained by Yinan police. Two were released after being questioned and their phones confiscated. The other lawyer was detained after authorities accused him of stealing a man's wallet. He was not released until the trial concluded on the 18th. None of Chen's lawyers were allowed in the courtroom for the trial.

He was jailed for 4 years and 3 months. After released in Sept 2010, he and his wife and daughter have been put in house detention. Cut out contact of friends. No visitors could reach him.
