Not lack of seimic faults but more of the structure of the fault line(s) that caused the super quake. For instance, tidal waves in Hawaii were higher than in T a iwan or on the Philippines but had upto 2m on Papua New Guinea and some places on Maui..

Probably the places was originally below the nearby sea level about 10 meters.

Jinan city is called by "Spring city".
The downtown area of Jinan is below the water in the south hills and below the water in the north Yellow rivers.

I'm not aware about reclaimed land along the NE coast. This is a highly mountenous area where the small low land pieces are mostly mini deltas of small rivers which flow into the P.O.

Number 1 plant and Number 2 plant

The Nuclear power leaking accident involving Number 1 plant and Number 2 plant owned by ETPCO.

The Fukushima 1 Nuclear Power plant, also called by Fukushima Dai-ichi, owned by TEPCO, is in the Futaba District of Fukushima Prefecture, Japan.


The plant consists of 6 light water reactors. 2 more are planned to construct on April, 2012. It first commissioned in 1971, one of the 25 largest nuclear power stations in the world.

The Fukushima 2 Nuclear Power plant, also called by Fukushima Dai-ni, also owned by TEPCP, is in the same area, 11.5 Kilometers to the south of Number 1.

The plant consists of 4 light water reactors.

In history, Unit 3 reactor was shut down for a long time because of an accident.

BWRs of LWR

All of the reactors in Number 1 and Number 2 plants are BWRs of LWR.


The cheapeast Nuclear reactors is Light Water Reactors (LWR).

LWRs can be subdivided into 3 categories:
pressurized water reactors (PWRs)
boiling water reactors (BWRs)
supercritical water reactors (SWRs)


The 5 great power countries with nuclear naval propulsion capacity:
British, Chinese, French, and American Naval vessels use LWRs.
Most of Russian Naval vessels use LWRs too.


The theory of BWRs

The pencil-thin nuclear fuel rods, each about 3.7m long, are grouped by hundreds in bundles called fuel assemblies. Complicated chemicals including uranium take part in the chain reactions. All of this reactions is enclosed in a water-filled steel pressure vessel, called the reactor vessel. (LWR)

The reactions would produce lights, or radio waves, or electromagnetic waves.The sun lights make us warm. The ultraviolet lights can kill virus. The X-rays lights can travel through fresh. The Gamma-rays lights can cut fresh. Because there is the energy, heat, or radiation, or electromagnetic radiation, in the lights.

The reactions are controlled at a steadily low speed, easily starting and stopping.  

BWRs:
The energy, heat, in lights burns the water into steam. The steam directly drives the pwer-generating turbines. After that the stream turns into water. And this water goes back to be heated. The fuel are cooled on the contrary.

There are several shells for preventing the leaking of the energy in lights. These shells are inside of this reactor vessel and outside, such as the shell of vessel itself, the plant houses, etc.
