Can you believe that a tape is reliable to fix a crack of a plane?
What a rediculous way!!
The passenger who saw the tape must be funky on the air.

A passenger who photographed part of a plane that was wrapped with tape posted online what he had seen from the airplane window.

The photos soon became a sensation with many netizens, who questioned the quality of the tape and the safety of air travel.

Kunming Airlines, the owner of the plane, told Yunnan Information Daily yesterday that the tape is a special aluminum foil tape and is totally safe to use on aircraft.

"The tape is widely used for temporary maintenance before a plane arrives at the airport for further treatment," said Li Wenzhao, deputy manager of the air company's maintenance department. "It won't cause any problem to flight safety," he asserted.

However, many netizens say they will definitely leave a flight if they see a plane taped like this.

Kunming Airlines confirmed that the plane is a Boeing 737-700 that took off from Kunming on January 12, 2010 and landed in Harbin.

#1 Can you believe how....

little people know about aeronautics and/or air saftey measures?

The tape is not holding anything there. The tape is a scheduled repair measure to protect the newly installed part of the wing and the glue used from outside elements during the first flight after reapir. The next time the plane lands, if the mechanics consider that the joint is welded and with no fisures they will take the tape away. That's all!

seen that in INDONESIA, they use a lot of 2nd hand aircraft!
so far, so good.....
but in the back seat pocket, they ask you to "say a prayer" first before takeoff and on-landing!

It's speed tape,
not duct tape,
and as longzhou said,
that does make a difference.

I saw a Russian plane at an airshow in Melbourne, with wiring run on the outside of a wing, and taped/glued to the wing surface.
It looked quite dodgy.

There was also a photo of a Chinese (?) plane with dodgy rivets, but I cannot recall where I saw that.
