Sunny Bay is located in the southwest of Yalong Bay National Resort in Sanya City at the southernmost tip of Hainan Island, approximately 21 kilometers away from the downtown area of Sanya City, facing Baifu (Fortune) Bay on the west, lying close to Yalong Bay on the east, where the primitive and unsophisticated natural landscape remains. Sunny Bay ranks second in the world in terms of the air quality. The bay presents itself in the U-shaped landform, measuring approximately 2 kilometers in length and enjoying an average annual water temperature of 26.4 ℃ and annual average air temperature of 28 ℃. The bay boast the peaceful and crystal clear waters with the delicately fine and silver-white sand on the beach, the lofty peaks towering up like a forest and strange stones and rugged rocks exhibiting their grotesque shapes along the coast. Yalong Bay is highly reputed as “Hawaii of the Orient” for the clear waters. Sunny Bay faces Yalong Bay across a distance and the environment of the sea areas of Sunny Bay is best preserved, where the waters are clearer and bluer than those in Yalong Bay and the underwater coral reefs can be vaguely seen from the breach.
Sunny Bay, endowed with the picturesque scenery, is embraced by green mountains on three sides and faces the sea on another side. The main peak encircling the bay is Baishi Ridge standing 379 m above sea level, which is densely covered by the tropical virgin forests and occasionally dotted with the stalwart and sturdy stone landscape. The mountains surrounding Sunny Bay are opposite to the fishing villages and the tourist districts nearby, so it is a rarely valuable haven of peace. Living in this area for a carefree life can keep you clear off the troubles of the mortal life, where you can enjoy the endless and vast south sea and the exclusive privacy and serenity of the beautiful sand beaches, so the bay presents itself in the dominance and elegance. You can stand at the peak of the Sunny Stone for a bird's eye view of the sea and see the beautiful scenes of Yalong Bay and Haitang Bay on the east and the urban panorama of Sanya City on the west. You can also see one of the four capes in Hainan on the south, namely Jinmu Cape and you can have an unobstructed view of the sand beaches, bays, islets, tall buildings and the urban areas.
Sunny Bay: “If you come back from Sanya, you will see no other coastal areas as there is no more beautiful bay in the world except Yalong Bay” , so Yalong Bay is rated as the most beautiful bay in China while Sunny Bay is superior to Yalong Bay in terms of the natural scenery, where the waters are crystal clear with the best horizontal visibility up to 18～30 meters and there are a variety of underwater coral reefs and the freshly colorful butterfly fishes. Once in a while you can even see a shoal of silver fishes, totaling more than one hundred, each of which measures approximately one meter long! It is a gorgeous scene! Hopefully, you can also see the lovely and mild sea turtles. The dive site there is a top-grader in China in addition to “Xisha Islands” and “Nansha Islands” and is also one of the top-grade dive sites in Sanya at present.
Geomantic Advantages: “Water in front, mountains at the back, azure dragon on the left and white tiger on the right”. Sunny Bay faces water in the front and is surrounded by huge mountains and encircled by small hills on its left and right, so its landform tallies with the top-grade geomantic omen highly recognized in the traditional Chinese culture.
Legend: It is called Sunny Bay in that it faces a piece of stone on the opposite mountain. As legend has it, the stone is one of the nine suns shot down by Hou Yi but becomes a sunny stone at the very place, so it is called “Sunny Bay”. Another legend goes like this, The sunny stone is the fossil of a large male dragon which flies from Sanya together with the female dragon to drink water at Sunny Bay but they have trouble at the Sunny Mountain the female dragon saves her own life by flying into the skies but the male dragon remains at the top of the mountain and becomes a fossil. The female dragon is reluctant to depart from the male dragon and changes into thousands of small fishes swimming and keeping the male dragon company in the sea at the food of the mountain. The male dragon keeps watch at the land and waters surrounding Sanya, including each coming and going ship or boat on the sea with great affection. The sunny stone is the head of the dragon, looking at Sunny Bay and ushering in the sunrise. However, the Sunny Stone is thickly covered by the white mist prior to the sunrise each day. The huge dragon fossil has witnessed the vicissitudes of Sunny Bay.

A legend of Sunny Bay
About Sunny Bay--- A beautiful legend
The origin of Sunny Bay—Hou Yi’s legend…..
As legend has it, Hou Yi and Chang’e (the Moon Fairy) are people in the period of Monarch Yao in ancient time and there are 10 suns in the sky which scorch the land and wither the crops and send people greatly oppressed with the stifling heat. Due to the extremely hot weather, ferocious animals and birds fled out of the dry rivers and flaming forests to attack human beings.
The disaster of the human beings disturbs gods of heaven and the Emperor of Heaven ordered the bow master, Hou Yi, to come down to the earthly world to assist Monarch Yao to relieve people from the sufferings. Hou Yi, with his beautiful wife Chang'e, descended to earth carrying a red bow and white arrows given him by the Emperor of Heaven
Hou Yi plunges into the fight without any delay. He takes off the red bow and the white arrows from his shoulder and shoots them at the overbearing suns one by one. In the twinkling of an eye, nine of the ten suns are shot down. Monarch Yao dissuades Hou Yi from shoot the last one down just for the benefit of the people under the heaven. So we have the legend of Hou Yi shooting nine suns.
It is said that one of the nine suns shot down by Hou Yi falls down at the mountain top of Sanya Sunny Bay. Sanya Sunny Bay derives such a name in that people think that a sun shot down by Hou Yi just falls down at the mountain top where "not even a blade of grass grows".
