Yushu earthquake did happened on Aril 14th, and caused 2192 people dead and nearly 10,000 people injured. we all felt terribly sorrow for the victims and expressed best wishes to the survivors. To our relief，immediately after the tragedy, our central government and local governments has paid great attention to this earthquake happened in Yushu and directed to save victims immediately regardless of any cost. In the meantime, people throughout the country has been keeping on offering their donations as soon as hearing this news. And We firmly believe that Yushu will get out of sorrow and shade soon with the help of the whole society.|
Mr. tamson, neglecting all great efforts others has spent in rescuing victims and recovering damaged buildings, how could you just simply say that” China Failed to early warn the Qinghai Earthquake!”? Shouldn’t you do something necessary to comfort the sorrow of the whole nation?
You said “if all the people and government'e related departments attach an importance to that slight quake, we can save more lives.” It is a typical thinking pattern of “easier said than done”. As we, including you, all know, although we have known a lot of things about earthquake, but there are still many thing about it that we can’t do, and the reason that it's currently impossible to predict the exact day and time than an earthquake will happen, is to "see" inside the earth and measure the stresses on the rocks that border the faults, to see the underlying movement of the more plastic rocks of the mantel that lies 30-100 miles below the surface, and to know how much longer the rocks can withstand the strain before "letting go" and shaking us. Famous scientist ,Wang Chengmin, also stressed that predicting earthquakes itself is a tricky business, and says that many of the people gloating about their successful prediction of the Wenchuan earthquake are not mentioning the many times before they have predicted earthquakes and nothing happened. And, he concedes, people don’t tend to be interested in the deeper scientific issues, so when someone correctly predicts an earthquake, he becomes a hero. After all, every year, over 150,000 earthquakes are recorded worldwide
Till now, have you learnt the fact that although these disastrous events are notoriously hard to predict, it doesn't mean that scientists aren't trying?
