Manoj,

Doubtful. China has no interests in the Pacific but it does have interests on the Indian Ocean rim.

My mistake I meant South China Sea, the Taiwan straits, China would do much to maintain the balance or status quo in the island region

Ofcourse, China does have great interests in Indian ocean but I hope that her interests won't clash with India's interests there. China wants safe corridors in Indian ocean through which most of her oil supplies pass through.

Intersting.

Where would China keep its Carrier fleet, highly unlikely in Gwadar port or other ports in South Asia. China would be much interested to keep her fleet in Hainan or near Malacca strait.

Manoj,

Where does the US keep its carrier fleet? It's pretty much on perpetual patrol wherever we want it to be. That's the magic of such giant, complex ships.

Keeping it in the Straits would be suicide. Never a good idea to expose a capital ship to simple land-based attack.

chinese carriers, by me, is no more but a prestige thingy and an image builder. unlike the usn which employs its carriers [always] as a tool to threat, bullying, and/or for blackmailing objects, i doubt beijing have a need to flex her muscles the way the americans does...

i mean we chinese sure as the heck won't go about threatening other states with military intervention if these states tries to get their nukes to defend themselves from other nukes.

with the exception of the south china sea where china have huge sovereign stakes that she needs to protect and where carriers will makes for necessary air power projection, with dear life if that's what it'll take, and of course the images thingy, the prc by me have no need to flex her muscle as the americans does anywhere in the world...

(Shucks! I have two responses here before this one but it's not uploading)
