“我们”——这个在计划经济时代使用频率极高的词,已被更为普遍的"我"所代替


我这样理解这句话:说“我们”被“我”代替,是指从使用频率看,“我”取代了“我们”,成为使用频率极高的词。

然而,在“我”和“我们”之间,是以“他人”作为连接点的。“我”因“他人”而成为“我 ”;“我们”因“他人”而成为“我们”。
But between “I” and “we”, be it noted, stands “others” which acts as a connection point. It is in relation to “others” that both “I” and “we” derive their respective identities.


这个“他人”,是个难点。在中文里它没有单复数的问题,单数复数都可以;但是在英文中则不同,把它译为 others 就把单数排除在外了。似可译 another person or others. 连接点 a connection point 似太死。
However, between “I” and "we" there is a nexus -- another person or others. 也许别的朋友有更好的主意。

When “we” excessively strengthens and magnifies “I” while at the same time showing no regard for “others”, “I” will find itself in an isolated and helpless position beset by enemies on all sides.

重复。用while去at the same time.


When  “we” excessively strengthens and magnifies “I”不自然,不如 When “we” excessively strengthen and magnify “I”....

今天比较忙,虽然看到ptb老师的回复,却没有足够的思维状态,探讨具体的问题。明后有时间,我认真做复。另外,我自己也系统批评下自己的译文。:)

译者确实很容易对自己的译文形成心理定势,不大跳得出来,保持客观视角 I guess there is vanity at work here.
