So why would they threaten the museum? It's clear that the Center was responsible and engaged in fraud.

It's all to "get even" with Germany over their officials meeting with the DL.

You're wrong. This has nothing to do with Merkel.

The 'Voelkerkunde Museum' in Hamburg displayed fake terracotta warriors and misled the public to believe that these are originals. They even used the name of the 'office of cultural treasures' in Xian in their displays although they were neither informed nor involved in this exhibition. A cultural expert from the city of Leipzig recognized the exhibition pieces as fakes and informed the police because of fraud.

So it wasn't the Center that was the source of fraudulent information? They seem to be waffling in their statements to the press, indicating that they defrauded the museum.
