umm,i found my english name myself.since i have learnt english for such a long time. many boys and girls had their own english name . even the little kids have one too.it envied me time to time. long before,i also didn't know how to find an english name.or if there were any rules for an english name. then i asked my teacher my teacher. and he gave me one,,"peter". i didn't like it indeed.i wondered if there was something connectted with my chinese name .abosolutely nothing.so i gave it up at once. and i found  many resources about the tips of english name.

as the friends above said. pronunciation and meaning were both important for a  nice english name//

everything on you

I think if somebody wants an English name.....no necessary to choose a traditional English name as Mike , lily. andy or whatever...From my standpoint, you can choose any English word as your English name, like fruit , any objects..............and so on.
hello , everyone , Spreitzer is my name~~ when I learn an English lesson, I'm fond of the name by the first sight , yeah , i like it very much~~
so you could pick out the name if you love!

Why would you do this?

Don't know whether anyone is still reading this thread but here are my two cents;

Why do you want an English name?

Ok, yes, I know you are working in a foreign company & need an English  name, but why?
If your name is for the English speakers to use, choose one that is comfortable for the English speakers.

I looked on the web & found http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/
& then to http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/decades/names2000s.html

These have the 1000 most popular names (probably in USA).
Almost all names mean something good.
Most people do not know what names mean ecepting their own name.
The meaning of most of these names is not really important.

There are a few names that seem to be accepted in several languages, like Lily, but some the traditional names are less popular recently.

I suspect that most people choose names for their children by finding one that sounds pleasant, does not remind them of someone they do not like or reminds them of someone they do like.

OK, Fun stuff

Lilian is a European name, in Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, English, Romanian, and Polish, and means the Lily Flower.

Lilith is English, but comes from Assyrian Mythology, borrowed through the Old Testament Bible, and means "Of the Night."

In Jewish and Islamic Bibles Lilith was Adam's first wife, sent out of Eden and replaced by Eve because she would not submit to him. The Christian Bible ignored her, and over the years, she has been removed from it.
