But pleasure to Chinese means eating huoguo, play majiang and sing karaoke. Although I enjoy those activities as much as anyone else, I think Chinese kids need some new kind of pleasures, or rather activities.|
There should be a student union organizing stuff for students, like bringing pop singers and rock bands to the schools for concerts (although we know the authorities hate rock music because of its revolutionary power), and the kids should also be able to play themselves, if this is classical music, ancient Chinese music, pop or rock doesn't matter, as long as it functions as a mental outlet. Rock music in particular is a very powerful catalyst to steam off aggression and other emotions peacefully.
Sports... well, it may be fun to play basket ball with the pals on the schoolyard, but it needs to be more organized, some competition to make it distinct from the normal studying activities.
Parties... kids need to party. actually, university kids need to blow their heads off once in a while and get drunk just to let off the pressure. It works for Western kids, and it surely also works for Chinese kids. Parents will scream bloody murder, of course, but we are talking adults here, people... they can decide for themselves.
Sex... well, this seems to be a real problem with Chinese, as it is seen as something that belongs to marriage only, and more or less as an obstacle before being married. Seems like half the university population is walking around with severe sexual stress because of external rules.
Who knows what's going on in the heads of those in charge at universities and other autorities? At least it can be claimed that they are doing the students a BIG disservice by treating them like three-year-olds, and thereby they are also doing a BIG disservice to the country (ever wondered why overseas Chinese don't want to come back? It's not all about the money... freedom is the other factor).
