As in "nominee Can Xue". It's not that tricky.

  She can't write in English like Kazuo Ishiguro, Arundhati Roy, or Ha Jin, who was born in China and  honed his English writing skills  after he set foot in America.  Meaning it's a liability  for a Chinese novelist just like what Wolfgang Kubin said when asked about why Chinese novels haven't made headway in Europe and America. Wolfgang Kubin opines that Chinese novelists would do well to learn English and even try to write in English.
