(CGTN)The Chinese capital will open its first bicycle-only road at the end of May, according to the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport.
The 6.5-kilometer-long road aims to ease choking traffic in the area between Huilongguan, a densely-populated community, and Shangdi, where a large number of hi-tech companies are located, in northern Beijing. An average of 11,600 people commute to work daily in the area.
I hope it will be in all cities soon .. even the highways if possible. Riding is a good form of exercise and another mode of transport to other cities and provinces if there are pathways for bikes. This will also create another form of business such as cheap hotels and service areas for bikes along the highways. The joy would be not only the destination but in the travelling as well.
China used to be a nation of cyclists until some smart alec introduced the motor car and now we have air pollution from exhaust fumes, gridlock, wasted time sitting in traffic jam! China should go back to bicycles!
