First, a little background information on Israel's main backer, without whom it cannot survive in our contemporary world where justice should prevail over injustice universally.|
Just as in the case of the Native Americans facing white Americans in North America, today the Palestinian Arabs are in the same situation vis-à-vis the Israelis in the Middle East.
It had all begun in 70 A.D. -- the year the Romans drove the Israelis away from Jerusalem.
The Seven Tribes of Israel – the name given to the Jewish Diaspora – were scattered around the world – with one of the tribes reaching as far as China’s capital city of Kaifeng during the Northern Song Dynasty (960 – 1127 A.D.).
Kaifeng became the only place on earth that any Jewish tribe ever became assimilated by the native population between 70 A.D. and 1948 A.D., at which time the state of Israel was established after the British-sponsored Bedford Declaration took effect.
Yes, the dispersed and stateless European Jews were given a new lease on their nationhood when they were set in motion again by Adolf Hitler’s anti-Antisemitic frenzy, exemplified by the notorious Kristallnacht (Crystal Night, alluding to the glass-breaking rampage against J-owned shops) Pogrom in 1938 and subsequent genocidal acts in Nazi-occupied Europe, to emigrate to the Middle East and elsewhere.
After WWII, Britain’s Bedford Declaration gave the Jews their long-coveted State in British-controlled Palestine in 1948. It was an absurd deal in which quasi-landlords (the Brits were merely troublemakers and weren't owners of the land they were giving away) illegally handed over Palestinian land to the newly-arriving Jews.
The original owners of the land were thus evicted from Palestine, culminating in their near-complete expulsion after the June, 1967 Six-Days War in which the Israelis defeated a combined Arab army and grabbed all Palestinian land for themselves.
The process of establishment of the Jewish state was not completed, however, until Netanyahu’s government announced in October, 2018 that Israel was from then on to be recognized as a Jewish State, with its Arab minority enjoying only a nominal and unequal citizenship status.
The forced exodus of Christian Palestinians from their homeland has resulted in a drastic reduction in their numbers – of the known 50,000 Christian Palestinians, only one percent (500) has remained in Palestine, attesting to the gravity of the bullying situation.
Thus ironically the German Fuehrer -- Adolf Hitler -- could rightfully claim at the Eternal Court of History that he was the Father of the Jewish State with its self-proclaimed capital now relocated from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, in defiance of the position that a majority of the world’s nations at the United Nations took -- that believers of the Jewish faith should share that Holy City with those of other faiths such as Islam.
This discussion is centered around the plight of the Palestinians in the Occupied Territory today, which is comparable to or even worse than what the Native American peoples have experienced in the reservation areas to which they have variously been resettled.
Within the territory of the Military Occupation, no Arab Palestinian could travel without papers in their own land, and there was even a picture of a segregated road in Hebron upon which no Palestinian Arab could set foot.
Injustice was further demonstrated by the fact that when a 16-year old girl slapped an Israeli soldier on the face during a confrontation, she was sentenced to 9 months in jail (she wasn't killed on the spot only because there were cameras all around), whereas the conviction of Elor Azaria, an Israeli soldier who had illegally shot a Palestinian man through the head, was given exactly the same sentence of 9 months.
The only reason the Israeli soldier was even convicted of manslaughter in May, 2016 was because his crime was recorded by a TV cameraman.
It is a shame to learn that 97 percent of the water used on the Gaza Strip is polluted, and no rich Arab nation has ever volunteered to finance water-purification facilities.
On last count 270 Palestinian children are still in jail. No one is allowed to leave the Gaza Strip unless he/she is proven to have a chronic disease like cancer.
All in all, there were 2500 Palestinian casualties on the Gaza Strip in 2014 including 2000 unarmed civilians and 600 children. Compare this to the 80 Israeli casualties, of which only 10 were civilians, and you should get the picture of who’s doing the shooting, and who are the hapless ones who braved the Gaza barricade in defiance against the occupation forces.
In July, 2018 alone, 60 Palestinians were shot dead while attempting to leave Gaza, with one of them (a young nurse called Razan with a lovely face) shot dead while caring for the wounded in broad daylight.
In the aftermath of all this commotion, the U.S. has acted like a grimacing demon vetoing all UN resolutions against Israel. What’s more, under Donald Trump’s direct supervision, it has threatened to leave the UN, as if to complete the process of leaving international organizations including the UNESCO and the UN Human Rights Commission.
In addition, he has failed to attend the recent APEC meeting, withdrawn from the Paris Climate Agreement, the Iran Deal, NAFTA, TPP, The UNHCR (UN High Commission on Refugees) and threatened to withdraw from the WTO too if his unilateral demands are not met.
So much for the WASP contention that the country is a melting pot where freedom and democracy seekers from around the world can be guaranteed an audience.
Instead, it would seem to any unbiased observer that Donald Trump enjoys upsetting the international order by undoing multilateral agreements, courting traditional foes like North Korea while poking traditional allies like Japan, Canada and the EU.
Not in China’s fondest dream of avarice would she imagine that someday the U.S. would commit hara-kiri and launch a frontal assault on many years of U.S.-created, sponsored and led world order.
In fact, any agency entrenched long enough to have a familiar acronym is likely to feel the presidential acrimony from The Donald. So it is not surprising that the Native Americans would lose their fight against that Alaskan oil pipeline traversing their reservation lands in South Dakota, and the Gazan Palestinians would have to fight hard against his moving the Israeli capital to Jerusalem. Like Denise the Menace, he is rocking the boat while threatening the world with further misbehavior if he doesn't get his way.
Broadly speaking, this has translated into what feels like Trump's war on international acronyms. Any entrenched agency or agreement or organization that has been around long enough to have a nickname is likely to feel the acrimony of the President. I tend to think of it as a short-form way to look at what is essentially a full frontal assault on decades of US-initiated and led world order.
Palestinians believe that in contrast to Trump’s unilateral retreat from all fronts, China will be using its growing economic and political clout to further make its way in Africa and the Middle East.
I think they believe that China will pick up distressed assets abandoned by Trump and re-purpose them to fit her own strategic plans. Its push can be seen as a natural extension of U.S. disengagement, and the Gazans are hopeful that they will then see the light at the end of the tunnel.
