Globally we have much longer history of success by various nations by capitalism, with varying degrees of socialist constraints.

Capitalist history is all we really know.
Communism is a new thing, that came out because of capitalist failings.
If the capitalist have their way, labor laws would not exist.
Child labor would still be used.
Environmental pollution would be overlooked.

There you just gave brief history into concrete results of Chinese communism.

I'm not denying that communism is a good ideology. But no country ever has succeeded implementing such without totalitarian control mechanisms, and those I think are so bad that they outweigh the pros of pursuing communism at all.

Communism is an extreme dimension of socialism, and it was socialism that gave workers' rights and other nice things in developed west - not communism. In almost all countries labeling themselves communist, worker's rights (among other rights) have been severely neglected.
