US interests have been "festering" ever since the multiple disasters of the failed Iraq invasion, the financial crisis of 2008 and the weakening of the European Union. The disaster of Trump merely adds to these problems. The liberal establishments in the West have made many mistakes since the end of the USSR. Above-all, by favoring the wealthy over the working-class, they have lost support among their average voters. This error can be corrected. Despite all these problems, humanity is still much safer from destruction than it was at the height of the Cold War when there were tens of thousands of nuclear missiles ready to launch. Now we have only about 6000 ready. The problem of Islamic terrorism is minor by comparison.
My problem is simple: I just know better than everyone-else!
