If the kid is yours or you are the kid,

As a responsible traveller, I would do the same, if I have kids with me!  There is nothing wrong with seats at the back, they are equally good, and often taken up by passengers; putting kids and parents there is not a punishment!  In fact they are closer to the galley which food and drinks are readily available for the kids.

If you are the kid or the kid is yours, would you still be so resentful?

Not resentful!  Just being fair to all travellers. Travelling in a narrow confined cabin is very tiring, need rest and sleep, don't need noisy kids nearby!  One airline even banned kids below a certain age onboard on night flights, exactly for reasons I explained!
