(Xinhua) -- China's island province of Hainan will control the number of new cars by setting registration quotas.

Starting from August 1, license plates for new cars, except new-energy ones, can be obtained by either a lottery-style system or bidding, the provincial government announced Tuesday night.

The precise quota has not yet been announced. Registration of new cars will halt between Wednesday and July 31.

Hainan plans to have all its vehicles run on new energy by 2030 to promote green development.

The island has more than 9 million people and about 1.18 million vehicles. It plans to introduce 5,600 new energy vehicles into the market and build more than 10,000 recharging posts this year.

Good News

This is good news.
9/11 was an inside job.
No second plane. It was a bomb.Bomb in the other building.
You KNOW without a doubt the videos are fake, right ?!
Planes don't meld into steel and concrete buildings. They crash into them !!!!!!!
It's amazing how the building ate the plane !!!
Imagine those fragile wings cutting slots in massive steel columns !!!!!
How STUPID can they think the people are to believe that crap ??!!

Thumbs up to Hainan!  Many Chinese cities are choked with cars, causing heavy air pollution, gridlock, loss of valuable time caught in traffic jams etc etc.  Big cities like Shenzhen and Guangzhou should follow Hainan's example before their already bad traffic situations get worse at huge cost to their economies!  Their leaders must have to guts to do the right thing and stop pandering to the irrational demands of their citizens for private cars!  Public transport is the way to go!!

Where do you get your reasons for praising Hainan's authorities? They are not banning cars per se; ...

At least there will be no air pollution without fossil fuel cars.  And Chinesemotorist have the bad habit of leaving their vehicle engines running while they sit in their vehicles waiting for friends, contributing to even more pollution!
