China hopes that the dialogue between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States will be smooth and achieve substantial progress, said visiting Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Pyongyang Wednesday.

During the talks with DPRK Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho, Wang said that China fully backs the DPRK's efforts to achieve the goal of denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula.

He also said that China welcomes the successful summit meeting between the leaders of the DPRK and South Korea held on April 27 and its important outcomes.

Wang recalled that DPRK top leader Kim Jong Un made a successful visit to China in March.

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Kim had a historic meeting during the visit. They achieved significant consensus on continuing and developing China-DPRK traditional friendly relations, as well as enhancing strategic communications and cooperation between the two countries, thus starting a new chapter of bilateral relations, Wang said.

This will guide the two countries to consolidate and further develop bilateral relations in the new era, he said.

Wang said that the China-DPRK traditional friendship is the shared and precious treasure of the two countries, adding that to continuously develop and pass on this friendship to future generations is a strategic choice of both countries.

He said that China is ready to work with the DPRK to implement in substantial ways the important consensus reached by the top leaders of the two countries, by strengthening communications and coordination between their political and diplomatic organs, pushing forward pragmatic economic and trade cooperation, cultivating people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and instilling new vigor into China-DPRK relations in the new era. I agree that peace between the artificially divided Korea and reunification would be progress.
But before there can be peace in Korea the US must remove all its military bases and personnel
from South Korea.

The US wouldn't tolerate the USSR in Cuba back in 1962 so why should China and Korea
accept the US in east Asia?
If capitalism promotes innovation and creativity then why aren't scientists and artists the richest people in a capitalist nation?

But b ...

I'm rather certain that the South would be more then happy to take back command of their Armed forces.

However, we should not rush into the unknown future...
Once the Peace treaty is signed, the rest is simply a matter of time

This, of course, is good news and some degree of relief for those countries threatened by the DPRK's nuclear arms development. We must be optimistic and hopeful that peace will stabilize in this part of Asia. However, once trust between people is broken it is difficult to regain it. North Korea has broken promises and commitments many times. As before, they commit to moves bringing peace and stability to the area as a result of sanctions against them. Once sanctions are removed, they resume their previous policies. This time sanctions have been made most effective by cutting the access to monies gathered by the rich elite and invested in Western countries. The leadership of this country have been hit in their pockets. I personally doubt that the DPRK will abandon their nuclear weapons, or worse still may decide to develop other forms of mass destruction instead and in secret. Nonetheless, the words spoken about ending the war between the South and North seem genuine. Will the situation continue to improve, or will it return to aggression and continued misery for its people? Only time will tell.
As for ideas about Trump getting a peace prize for this.... ridiculous. He has enflamed the situation to the brink of nuclear war with his childish twitters. His attitude towards gun control are disgraceful. It is severe sanctions that have resulted in progress on the Korean peninsular; not his stupid rhetoric.   and thanks to President Xi and his ministers for their constructive involvement in bring about a beginning of some sort of stability to Korea.
