The left side illustrates how the Chinese character developes from the inscription of tortoise shells to the modern simplified Chnese.

The original Chinese of "peng" stands for two strings of (sea) shells, which are the ancient Chinese currency. Please see the picture in Post 1.

Philology is the study of words, especially the history and development of the words in a particular language or group of languages. --Collin Dictionary
Phiology is a branch of linguistics, to which relevant scholars devote themselves in their disciples respectively on the basis of their serious researches, rather than pull an imaginary rabbit out of someone's the hat and present to other people with their own coined explanations.

A native speaker of certain language doesn't qualify his knowledge of the philology of the language he speaks, no matter it is in Chinese, English or any other language.

Most native speakers don't understand the etymology of "apoplex". "apo" means "under', and "plex" means strike. The source of the word is from the Greek language, until a Greek told me.

Lisewise, don't read the nonsense about the sources of Chinese characters which are completely coined without traceable basis.

"You" means two hands of people put together.

"Peng" refers to "party", "a cluster of people".

And modern Chinese has conbined the two characters together, simply means "friend" in English equivalence.

Likewise, wife is qi zi in Chinese. "Qi" means "wife", and "zi" means "son". In modern Chinese, qizi just means wife. This is another story.
