Robotics indeed can replace manpower at a fraction of the cost.  Countries rich in manpower may find their "comparative advantage" now a "comparative disadvantage" as they will have a problem feeding their masses, if they have no jobs.  But right now, it is not cost effective to have robots replace every manual activity done by human workers because the products are already selling at rock bottom prices that the savings on manpower cannot offset the expenses of investing in and maintaining robots.  Any advance in the means of production may not be achievable by old robots, so that they may need software and hardware replacements, increasing the cost of obsolescence of such machines.  So, yes, many human activities can be replaced by robots, but if the processes of production change, manufacturers using robots will be left behind overnight.  So, China's trump card is that it can invent new and better ways of making things, and more novel things that do things better than older things.  With the advantage of human creativity combined with the adaptability of the human being, manpower can outproduce robotics still, provided China adopts the Confucian adage of renewing everything everyday all the time.

2018 is shaping up to be a pivotal year for all countries.  With so many kettles on the stove, and all stoves running at full strength, the chance of everything magically ending peacefully is marginal.  Even the advent of a government-allowed Bitcoin nonsense is enough proof that all governments are ready to give up the sovereignty of their own currency.

[[ So, yes, many human activities can be replaced by robots, but if the processes of production change, manufacturers using robots will be left behind overnight.  ]]

In any manufacturing the production process seldom change unless new improved technologies are used to make better quality and precision product demanded by consumers.  Wafer semiconductor manufacturing are quite highly automated and using a lot of robotics arms.   New chip design have improved from 32nm to 15nm during the past 10 years and has not make TSMC - taiwan semiconductor manufacturing corporations - redundant.

[[ So, China's trump card is that it can invent new and better ways of making things, and more novel things that do things better than older things.  With the advantage of human creativity combined with the adaptability of the human being, manpower can outproduce robotics still, provided China adopts the Confucian adage of renewing everything everyday all the time. ]]

China and Japan can never invent new things with big brother constantly watching over your shoulder what you can do and cannot do.

Confucius teaching emphasis on do not change status quo.  Confucius teaching are over rated. Don't you believe all the nonsense on Confucius teaching promoted by China leaders. Most China leaders are Sima Yi type character.  That is the only way to survive in constant power struggle to take over the throne in the palace.

In old Confucius society, women and female are second class humans.  So many young girls from poor village become unpaid slave in rich landlord house.
