This post was edited by middleway at 2017-12-10 10:03

An article in Xinhua asks the question “It’s Time For Australia to Decide What Kind of Relationship it Wants With China”
I am a supporter of having a peaceful open relationship with China, but nothing annoys me more than when they start bullying and getting their knickers in a knot simply because an open free democratic country asks questions about China’s true motives.

This is what China does not understand, of course Australia has a right to be suspicious, your government and country has a history of abuse, thuggery, under the table deals, silencing protest, corruption. Australia will always ask questions especially when political donations are involved. china, you have a history.

So, I turn the question around and ask...

“It’s time for China to Decide What Kind of Relationship it Wants with Australia”

It works both ways, something China hasn’t quite worked out yet.

Australia is free to write and decide whatever on its White Paper. However, blaming China for political donations is not fair.

1) There is no proof but only speculation that China is trying to influence Australia politically.

2) The donor has Australian citizenship although ethnic Chinese.

3) The donation can be refused and there would be no issue, so why blame only the donor (or even China)? What about the receiver? It takes 2 hands to clap.

4) If Australia has the "right to be suspicious", China should have the right to refute too.

5) By refuting the accusation, it is not similar to "bullying". There is no sign or indication at all that there is a hint of "bullying".

6) This matter has nothing to do with "open free democratic country" or any form of political ideology.

7) All countries "have a history".

It works both ways, something Australia hasn't quite worked out yet.

What about the receiver? It takes 2 hands to clap.

Yes, valid point, you raised some other noteworthy points too.

There’s a cultural clash going on here which is where the misunderstanding is coming from. All of this bribery and funds and money donations, it’s just how China does things, how they function as a society, you give gifts, you kowtow and shower people above you with bribes to make it higher in the world, This is Chinese society, rank and order and position and deals going on everywhere and donations being handed out, it’s just the way the Chinese are wired to operate. It’s completely foreign to Australia and only now are we just starting to wake up to how different the way China operates is to our egalitarian system. None of this wheeling and dealing goes on in Australia, but now with the new temptation of big money being waved in our faces by influentual Chinese people in high places, some are giving in to the temptation. This is how it starts, this is how corruption and under the table dodgy deals are sneaking into our country too, which is why the Australian government, recognising that this is the start of a situation that could get out of control, have cracked down on it to protect out non corrupt political system.

China accuses Australian media of racism

An op-ed in China's People's Daily has accused the Australian media of slandering thousands of overseas Chinese who live and study in Australia.
Deutsche Presse AgenturDecember 11, 20174:41pm

Beijing has accused the Australian media of "paranoid" and "racist" reporting on China, amid growing concerns in Australia over Chinese interference.

"[We] suggest the Australian government and the media that they should uphold the principle of truth from facts and reject political prejudices and paranoia when handling relations with China," according to an op-ed in the People's Daily, the official mouthpiece of the Chinese Communist Party, on Monday.

It added Australia's current reporting and "racial paranoia tarnished Australia's image as a multicultural society".

The op-ed also accused the Australian media of slandering thousands of overseas Chinese who live and study in Australia, and fabricating stories about Chinese students interfering with free speech on Australian campuses and Beijing's interference in local politics.

"China has no intention of interfering in Australia's internal affairs and has no intention of influencing Australia's political process through political contributions," it said.

The article comes after Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull last week said his government took "very seriously" media reports that the Chinese Communist Party had attempted to influence Australian media, universities and politics.

He also said his government would introduce new laws to ban foreign political donations.

After China reproached Canberra for his remarks, the prime minister doubled down on his criticism of Beijing.

"There has been foreign interference in Australian politics, plainly," Turnbull told reporters in Sydney on Saturday..

Fears of Chinese interference have been revived in recent weeks, after opposition senator Sam Dastyari was demoted following revelations he tipped off a Chinese businessman that his phone was being tapped by intelligence agencies.

Why is Australia, a vast resourceful continent in Asia-Pacific, only a couple hundred miles away from South-East Asia had no Asian-Pacific Islanders in that vast land originally, historically inhabiting when Anglo pirates, some 10,000 miles away England, sailed half the world away, and looted in late 18th century? This doesn't make sense, since Asian-Pacific Islanders originally and historically inhabiting and residing in Pacific such as Guam, Tonga, New Zealand, Tahiti, Fiji and Hawaii? Speaking of New Zealand, why did these same Anglo pirates, sailed half way around the world and looted in late 18th century? Why didn't they occupy beautiful fertile Iceland, right above them just a short distant away, with hardly any people there? This doesn't make sense at all.

Like I said, these shameless pirates has sailed over the other side of the world,
and looted this whole gigantic resourceful continent called AUSTRALIA on our own backyard in Asia-Pacific region, and pretending just as if nothing ever happened  to this day , how shameless and how dare they are, how dare?!

Very curious. Its an age old English phrase - "You scratch my back and I scratch yours" probably before the East and West met. If the Western world was so innocent such a phrase wouldn't have existed in the English literature.

Just ask any businessman, not just those from China, why should they donate to political people or parties? Of course the answer one can expect, innocent on the face by totally untruthful deep down. Just study how Enron-US brought down a top 4 accounting firm back in the 90s - that's the Western Professionalism by a Top Western Institution. American intelligence institutions are all over inside Australia - that's not only intrusion, that's COMPREHENSIVE CONTROL.

So let's not try to point the dirt on one another. If everyone wants, sit down and set the rules straight. Surely the Chinese will be happy to play a fair game that's not intentionally designed to biasedly favour western institutions..

http://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2017/12/11/auch-d11.html

Below are excerpts from the article:

Australian Security and Intelligence Organisation (ASIO)

The article, headlined “Security agencies flag Chinese Manchurian candidates,” is a crude beat-up. No-one is named, no evidence is provided and ASIO’s unsubstantiated allegations are treated as good coin without any questioning of its motives. What the article does demonstrate is that the anti-China witch-hunt is being driven by the Australian intelligence agencies—backed to the hilt by Washington—amid the growing danger of a US-led war against North Korea and China

Dastyari is a right-wing Labor powerbroker and money raiser, who has always supported Australia’s military alliance with the US and its involvement in Washington’s criminal wars in Afghanistan, Libya and the Middle East. Yet he was targeted last year for his association with Chinese property developer Huang Xiangmo, who has donated not only to Labor, but also to the Liberal-National Coalition.

A recent Bennelong elections has proven that the 'China-phobia', technique fell back on incumbent Liberal government and it has to loose its safe victory to marginal victory by reducing the swing of up to 7 percent.

China is more vital for Australian prosperity now then ever before, and this is the first and foremost national interest.  I think  during Bennelong elections it has proven that Australian people only want friendly relationship with China and if Australian government would go against the will of the people it will violate its democratic values which Australian people would reject on all forums.

Isn't it the manifest destiny of Australia is to be the deputy sheriff of the West in the Indo-Pacific Region, tasked to keep China "in place" (like "in its reservation")?

A mysterious group that cannot be traced was spreading lies about the liberal government that they were anti China and Chinese it was only on wechat and only in the Chinese language.
All the hallmarks of the Chinese government interference in meddling in internal Australian affairs and trying to bring down an elected Australian government. A criminal act by a foreign hostile government

You are dead wrong again, little monkey.

Australia stands where it does today only owing to its neighbors' tolerance and hospitality. If it rocks the boat again as instructed by its western patrons, it will be in trouble, big trouble.

You must be too ll-informed to be aware of the existence of chief whips in the western parties. This is a figure who virtually forces its members to toe the party line. If the party members venture to make decisions at their own discretion, or in your words, commit thought crimes, they would be punished.

One of them was your chum. ethnic Chinese American UYA from Hawaii.

Unlike you, he is a law-abiding, qualified teacher.

Ironic

Vince Salandria has related how he was pressured by the ACLU to give up his research into the JFK murder. To his credit he resisted this pressure and handed in his membership card. What irony !! The organisation that claims to defend civil liberties in fact stifles well intentioned defenders of the truth !!

Don't blame the foreigners ... blame the schools and recruiters. They are the ones who convince the visa holders that there are no problems working with a tourist visa.
