Of course, Russia denied any accident, even if the contamination map show clearly where is the problem. Accordign to scientists, such contamination could seriously affect peoples several kilometers next to its origin.
It says a lot of how Putin treats his own peoples...

Perhaps you never heard that RTGs pose a risk of radioactive contamination: if the container holding the fuel leaks, the radioactive material may contaminate the environment.

For spacecraft, a passage of a spacecraft close to Earth, harmful material could be released into the atmosphere; therefore their use in spacecraft and elsewhere has attracted controversy.
Because the Apollo 13 moon landing was aborted, its RTG rests in the South Pacific Ocean, in the vicinity of the Tonga Trench...
  Ruthenium-106 was used as radioactive material in RTGs.

An E. car had an accident in Central Europe. It took 5 Fire engines and 35 firefighters with breathing apparatus to get the fire from the burning E. car under control.
