TRUMP IS THE FIRST PRESIDENT TO TAKE AN HARD, HONEST VIEW OF CHINA, OBJECTIVELY, IGNORING THE BLINDERS OF POLITICAL CORRECTNESS, IN ORDER TO FIND A WAY FORWARD FOR AMERICA'S QUEST TO REGAIN ITS GREATNESS.|
A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step, and the first step begins with knowing and acknowledging where you are right now. This is easier said than done, because of the temptation to blame others for one's own unforced mistakes. A good athlete aiming to regain his crown begins by taking a good look at himself, and what made him less than his true best.
Trump is doing just that. China's success is based on following the pragmatism of Deng. How do you cross a stream? Forget the blueprints and engineering plans. Poor as China was, these are luxuries that impoverish, rather than prosper the nation. Deng said, cross the stream by touching the stones. Trump is doing a similar exercise. America and China are competitors in some fields, partners in others, and hermits in still more others. Trump's self-criticism shows his intellectual honesty and humility. Truth is his only boss. So, he talks to Xi and proposes a way forward that makes both countries great again. As friends, and forever friends. What is wrong with that? The war hawks hate it though, because they make their fortunes from conflicts between nations, and the worse the conflict, the more they make. This is actually one of the biggest, if not THE biggest reason why America became non-competitive in manufacturing, not because it can't, but because it would rather make and export weapons which have a higher profit margin than consumer goods.
We can only pray that all this goodwill will last. It took much effort by both sides to reach this moment. Can't waste it on trivial issues.
