(Global Times) A post that was meant to be a joke has sparked a heated discussion on the Chinese Internet over the housing price in school districts.

The joke is about a new couple, both graduates of China's top universities, Tsinghua University and Peking University, who sought the advice of a monk about purchasing a home. They said they couldn't afford an apartment in Beijing, let alone one in a school district, and asked what they should do.

The monk replied, "If you have already graduated from the best universities in China and you can't afford an apartment, then there's no point in buying one now."

Many Web users found it ironic that after parents sacrifice everything to buy houses in school districts to get their children into top schools, the kids still cannot afford homes in similar areas and bemoaned the fact that China's top talent are unable to afford the skyrocketing housing prices.

You can take most Chinese people as blind bees who will go anywhere as long as others go too.

It is called herd mentality. But I don't think it is unique to Chinese people. Many want to live in big cities with more educational resources, better medical care, more job opportunities and so on.
